Privacy Policy

This policy is short because there isn't much to say.

Your data stays on your device

Everything you create in Pikos (notes, tasks, calendar events, folders) is stored in a standard, open database format on your machine, with your app preferences alongside it in local storage. There is no sign-up and no way for us to see what you write. You can copy, back up, or move your data at any time; there is no lock-in.

We cannot access, read, or recover your data. Dragging the app to the Trash doesn't delete it, the same as for any other app: your data stays in Pikos's folder in your user library until you remove that too. To erase everything from inside the app, use Delete All Data in Settings → Data.

Network connections

The app's only built-in network request is an update check when you launch it. Nothing about you or your data is sent, and you can turn it off in Settings → General.

Any feature that needs the network is opt-in, a toggle in Settings. Calendar sync, below, is the first one. If you turn a feature on, the relevant third-party provider's privacy policy governs whatever data flows through them.

External calendar sync

Pikos can show events from an outside calendar: iCloud, Google Calendar, or any CalDAV server. This is opt-in and off by default. Nothing connects until you add an account in Settings and turn a calendar on.

Sync is read-only and one-way. Pikos downloads your events into the same local database as everything else, so they work offline. Nothing you write in Pikos is sent to your calendar provider, and nothing is sent to us. The only network traffic is between your device and the provider you connected.

Pikos's use of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. In practice: your Google Calendar data shows up in the app, stays on your device, and goes nowhere else. Not to us, not to advertisers.

How your data is protected

Your calendar data, Google's included, comes down to your device over an encrypted connection (HTTPS), straight from the provider. It isn't routed through us, and there's no Pikos server that could hold a copy of it.

On your machine it's stored in the app's database, inside your own user account and protected by the same permissions that protect the rest of your files. If you have full-disk encryption turned on, it's encrypted on disk too. Sign-in tokens and app passwords are kept apart from all of that, in your operating system's keychain, which encrypts them. They're never stored in the database and never written to logs.

Pikos only ever reads. It asks Google for read-only access to your calendar list and your events, and nothing else: it can't create, change, or delete anything in your Google Calendar.

Your Google data stays only as long as you keep the account connected. Disconnect it and Pikos deletes the stored tokens, revokes its access with Google, and removes the synced events. Pages you've written on stay, because they're yours. So do the account's name and the list of its calendars, kept on your device so that reconnecting re-links your events instead of duplicating them. You can revoke access yourself at any time from your Google account permissions page.

Delete All Data, in Settings → Data, is the complete erasure: every page and folder, the database itself, the app's logs, your preferences, and the stored credentials for any calendar account, whose access is revoked with the provider on the way out. It can't be undone, so export first if you want a copy.

We don't sell your data, share it with third parties, or use it for advertising. Google user data is never used to develop, improve, or train AI or machine-learning models of any kind.

Website analytics

This website uses Umami, a privacy-focused analytics service, to count page views. No cookies, no fingerprinting, no cross-site tracking. We see one aggregate number: how many people visited each page. We cannot identify individual visitors. This applies to the website only, and none of it is in the app.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, we'll update the date at the top. For material changes, like collecting new data, we'll note it clearly here and in the app.
